The default: smart casual
For 90% of Amsterdam clubs (Paradiso, Melkweg, Sugar Factory, Club NYX, AIR, Claire), smart casual is fine. That means closed shoes, jeans or trousers (not sweatpants), and a clean shirt, top or dress. Sneakers are fine if they're tidy.
Glam / dress-up: Chin Chin Club and Jimmy Woo
Chin Chin Club asks for relaxed chic or glam — you'll feel under-dressed in jeans and sneakers. Think tailored, statement pieces, party shoes, a good shirt. Jimmy Woo is similar. Dress up a level from your daytime tourist outfit and you'll be fine.
Underground / techno: relaxed
Shelter, Radion, Garage Noord and the Noord scene are much more relaxed. All-black is the cliché but not required. Comfortable shoes are essential if you're staying until sunrise.
